🔎 Data Detective Academy
Mission Start

Welcome, Detective!

🕵️‍♀️📊

We are learning about Data Representation — that means finding smart ways to show information with pictures, charts, and tables.

Before we start, what is your name, Detective?

Clue #1

What is Data?

Data is information we collect. It can be numbers, words, or answers to a question.

Example: Ms. Rose asked her class, "What is your favourite pet?"

🐶 Dog, 🐱 Cat, 🐟 Fish, 🐶 Dog, 🐱 Cat, 🐶 Dog

All these answers are data! But it's hard to understand a long list. That's why we turn data into pictures and charts — that's called Data Representation.

Clue #2

Tally Charts

A tally chart uses little lines to count things fast. Every 5th mark crosses the others, so we can count in groups of 5!

This shows 7 dogs: one full group of 5, plus 2 more lines.

Quick check: Count the tally below. How many are there?

Clue #3

Pictograms

A pictogram uses little pictures (symbols) to show data. It always needs a key, which tells us what each picture means.

Key: 🍎 = 1 apple eaten

🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎

This shows 5 apples were eaten.

Quick check: Each ⭐ below stands for 1 point. How many points in total?

Clue #4

Bar Charts

A bar chart uses tall bars to show amounts. The taller the bar, the bigger the number!

Favourite Pets — Class 3B

🐱 Cat
🐶 Dog
🐟 Fish
🐦 Bird

Quick check: Click the tallest bar above — that's the most popular pet!

Clue #5

Tables

A table shows data in rows (going across) and columns (going up and down). It's neat and easy to read!

Fruit Votes
🍌 Banana4
🍇 Grapes9
🍊 Orange6

Quick check: According to the table, which fruit got the most votes?
